Making Landing Pages
Using the Stand Alone Static Webpage Module

f you are serious about making your website work harder to support your organization or business, you'll soon start to hear about "Landing Pages". Landing pages are special webpages that viewers typically see not by clicking a link in your website navigation menus, but through some other path.  They are a vital and critical tool when it comes to getting more out of your web presence, and something that you will want to spend some time learning how to effectively use. The Stand Alone Static Webpage Module makes it easy to create landing pages.

For example, if you do a special promotion of some kind, and advertise it in the media, you'll probably want to give people a special address directly to a webpage that has been created specifically for your promotion. The page they come to is the "landing page". It's not permanent, and it probably won't be integrated into your website. It's custom designed for your special promotion.

Or if you use a Pay-Per-Click thing like Google or Yahoo to promote your website or organization, you'll want to tie those clicks to pages that have been specially designed to help your viewer do whatever it is you want them do. Again...they click into a "landing page".

The homepage of your website is a landing page, and sometimes that's what  you want people to see. But more often, especially as you begin to get more sophisticated with your internet presence, you'll want to design carefully crafted landing pages that you can use to better provoke the viewer to take action. Maybe you want them to buy something, give you their email address, view some information, or click away to another webpage...whatever it is, you'll generally want to use a specially designed landing page that usually is not a part of your main website.

That's where the Stand Alone Static Webpage Module and the Wizard Module comes in.

These modules lets you create webpages that aren't necessarily a part of your website. They can be, but more typically you'd use them to create pages that have a special purpose, a unique appearance often different than your website, or may in fact be totally unrelated to your primary web presence. In other words, you can use these modules to easily create landing pages.

Using the Stand Alone Webpage Module

Click the Add Module icon on the administration toolbar, and select the Stand Alone Static Webpage module. The page will be created, and you then use the standard webpage editor to add whatever content to the page you need. That's it.

Once complete, you probably will want to give it either a Friendly URL or an HTML webpage name before you start handing it's URL out to people or posting it on google or in your PPC system.

Using the Wizard Module

You can use the Wizard Module to create a more complex landing page that drives visitors through a series of "wizard" screens, either presenting simple information or optionally collecting information from the user as they move through the wizard.

Click the Add Module icon and select the Wizard Module. Then use the editing tools to create steps and form fields if necessary. You can have as many steps as you want.

The Wizard Module is a very powerful tool for creating advanced landing pages where you need to guide viewers through a lot of information, or want to break up long forms into several pages.

Useful Resources

Creating and using effective landing pages is probably one of the most useful and important things you can do to make the web work harder for you. There are several resources in the izotz Library that will teach you a whole lot more about it than we could ever do here. It's well worth a few dollars to get a couple of these books and spend a few hours at least understanding some basic concepts. I guarantee you that if you do, your website and web presence will dramatically improve.

If you only have time for one book, this is probably the best one that we've seen...
