Using the Friendly URL Name tool you can create user friendly URL names and replace those random ID's, making it much easier to remember your project URL's.

Project Management Website Template
When You Need to Collaborate on Projects

he Project Management website template creates a website that is designed to allow a team of people to collaborate on one or more projects. Perfect for contractors, software developers, event planners, or any other group of people who might need to communicate while working together.

Out-of-the-box the template includes several static pages you can use to outline the project, a project calendar, work schedule calendar, messaging module, discussion forum, issue tracker, work assignments, and a contact information module. And you can add additional modules from the module collection to further enhance the website. For example, if you are running a construction project, you might want to add a photo gallery so you can post photos of the project as it progresses. Or maybe you'll want to add a project diary to keep track of progress.

The Idea of the Disposable Website

The Project Management website is something you can get up and running in seconds. Click your mouse a couple times and you have a capable management tool that allows a diverse group of people...both within and outside an organization...to effectively collaborate on specific projects. Best of all, it didn't cost a lot of money. This means it's easy and cost effective to think about setting up a project website for even small projects that don't last more than a few days. Many people picture a website to be something big, expensive, and permanent. But it doesn't have to be. If it's easy and cheap enough to build complex and capable websites ad-hoc as the need arises...you can begin to think of the internet not so much in terms of permanent websites...but maybe more as a tool you can use to host ad-hoc disposable websites built and used for a limited lifespan. When finished with the project, dispose of the website.

Assembling a Diverse Team

Most projects include a diverse collection of team members. You might need to include project managers, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, clients, and so on. Most companies have an internal intranet they sometimes use for project management, but when it comes to including such a diverse group of people, many of the outside the company, most intranet solutions make that difficult to do. This project management website allows you to include the whole diverse range of people necessary to make the project happen. You can assign permissions for specific team members, restrict access to parts of the website, and control who gets to do and see what on the website.

Key Components

Project Outline : The template includes several static pages that allow you to create a project mission statement, outline, and goals. You can add as many static pages like this as you want.

Calendar : Keep track of key dates.

Work Schedule Calendar : Keep track of work schedules for multiple people. You can also track resources, material delivery, and other date based events. Add additional resource schedulers to the website as needed.

Messaging Module : Allows team members to exchange messages through the website without using email. Useful when some team members don't use email, or when you want to keep track of and log all project communications.

Discussion Forum : Allows team members to discuss the project. Better than email because it allows all team members to see all discussions.

Issue Tracker : Keep track of issues as they arise, assign tasks to team members.

Work Assignments : Assign tasks to team members, manage to do's, and create reminders of key events.

In addition to the above module components, there are several built-in tools that can help you manage projects. For example, you can use the Broadcast Email tool to send emails to all the team members. Various logging tools can help you track who is doing what and help you manage resources better.

Keeping a History

When the project is complete, you may not need the website anymore, but you'll usually want to keep a record of what happened during the project lifespan. Use the data export tool to export the data contained in your project website to XML files.

Conclusion

The Project Management website template allows you to create a capable project management tool that allows a diverse group of people to collaborate on one or more projects. Quick and easy to build, expandable, and flexible permissions allow you to think in terms of building ad-hoc management websites for individual projects, using them for the lifespan of the project, then disposing of them when no longer needed. Recycling not required.

Reader Comments
This sounds like an amazing idea.  Is there an actual FrontPage template to help set this up?

Thanks
