The Tao of iZotz
Where we come from

At first glance iZotz probably looks like one of the zillion website building tools that flood the internet highways. And on the surface it certainly is. You can use iZotz to quickly and easily build a website. And you don’t need to know how to write HTML or code a database to do it.

iZotz was born of two fundamental ideas that when blended together…then combined with a whole lot of creative thinking…and finally written out in code end up with the iZotz you see today.

The first idea was that “it just shouldn’t be so hard to put things on the web.” Lots of people have ideas for lots of things they want to put on the web, but the process of translating those ideas into something you can see in a web browser is notoriously complicated and often quite expensive. We at iZotz felt that it just shouldn’t be so hard to do.

And secondly, these days there are tools, many of them online, that will help you put things on the web. If you need to put something online, and if what you want to do if fairly simple, you’ve got a plethora of options for getting it done. The problem comes when what you want to do is either extremely simple, or extremely complex. There are lots of online website building tools that will put a nice ten page website online…often with a few modules that will let you collect email, run a blog, or do some other common web tasks. But what if all you want to do is put up a single webpage advertising an upcoming community event? You don’t need a big website. You don’t want to create anything permanent. And you don’t want to spend a lot of time doing it. All you need is a simple single webpage. Or maybe a single online photo gallery. Or maybe an online calendar for your social group. You want to put something small…and maybe temporary…on the web without a lot of muss and fuss.

Or, your ideas have grown big and complex. Maybe you need more than a single website. Maybe you need a website for each department in your company, and each website needs to share some content, but have their own unique content as well. Maybe your website needs to have multiple appearances…targeting different audiences. Maybe you need something that is easily and constantly updated. Maybe you need a high degree of customization in function modules, or need modules that nobody has. None of these needs fit easily into many of the current online website tools.  So you end up spending thousands of dollars, maybe hundreds of thousands, on custom websites.

Out of all this came the second idea…”not only shouldn’t it be easier, but you should be able to make the web do what you want. And…you shouldn’t need to be a programmer to do it.” In other words…customization is king. Have it your way. Hold the pickles.

Combine those two ideas together, and you’ve got the Tao of iZotz:

It shouldn’t be so hard to put things on the web. You should be able to do what you want on the web. And you shouldn’t have to be a programmer to do it.

That’s what drives everything we do at iZotz.

iZotz is an Organic Living Being.

Our favorite words are “wouldn’t it be nice if we could…

When we hear those words spoken about something on the web, we start thinking about whether or not we could actually make it happen. If you look at iZotz today, it’s different than it was a month ago. And in a month from now it will be different than it is today. Hopefully, it will be more capable, and enable you to do things on the web that you can’t today. Or, maybe it will let you do things easier than you can today. So the second part of the Tao of iZotz is that we never stop evolving. iZotz is an organic living being. What you can’t do today becomes our challenge, and maybe tomorrow you can.  Tools get better, features get better, everything gets easier. And like an organic being, this change is ongoing. If we can make a change for the better, you’ll see it tomorrow. If we come up with a new tool…you’ll see it tomorrow. The web is immediate. Change on the web can be instantaneous. And so is iZotz.

So if you have a thought that goes like “wouldn’t it be nice if we could…”, SEND IT TO US. We live for that stuff. Who knows, you might see it in a new feature or tool on iZotz tomorrow.

And that’s the Tao of iZotz. We want to see just how easy…yet capable…we can make it to put things on the web.
